International Coastal Cleanup observed in St Martin’s Island

On 20 November, Coca-Cola Bangladesh led 281 volunteers to clean up the beaches of St. Martin’s island along with partners Kewkradong Bangladesh, a youth-led organization and the leader of the Marine Debris program in Bangladesh. 117 volunteers travelled from Dhaka and were joined by residents of St. Martin’s island as well as tourists. The initiative was part of Coca-Cola’s global commitment to participate in the International Coastal Clean-up day that aims to clean up the world’s beaches of debris and waste. 281 volunteers collected 398kgs of trash from a 5km beach stretch in 4 hours. The Cleanup, now in its 28th year, is the world’s largest volunteer effort to remove trash and debris from beaches, inland waterways and oceans.

“Coca-Cola’s partnership with Ocean Conservancy is important, as it serves as a reminder that proper disposal and recycling is essential to protect the world’s waterways and oceans. Last year more than 210 volunteers collected 242 kgs of trash,” remarked Debasish Deb, Country Manager- Bangladesh, Coca-Cola Far East Ltd. The annual ICC is one of the largest volunteer events around the world for marine environment causes.
